Enroute to the moon Scott Free finally acquired his bithright, the New God powers he had inherited from his parents but which had never manifested. Later on in the series this would lead to Steve Englehart trying to turn him into a messiah figure promoting a new philosophy for Earth that wasn't based on either New Genesis or Apokoliptian ethics. This all fell by the wayside with the comic's cancellation and Scott's powers were retroactively declared to never have appeared by Mister Miracle's "Who's Who" entry in 1986 (just before Crisis on Infinite Earth's rewrote everyone's history). But I digress, let's look in on how Barda's brainwashing is going.
Personally I'd have thought twice about brainwashing Barda to go into a berserker rage. When you're in a moonbase surrounded by vaccuum do you really want a woman who can rip apart the walls running amuck? Anyway thanks to his new found powers Scott was able to knock out the rampaging Barda but curing her from brainwashing took until next issue. Four issues after that the comic wrapped up and Scott and Barda returned to DC comics limbo, reappearing in the occasional teamups with Batman and the Justice League of America before returning to gathering dust with the rest of the New Gods. But you can't keep a good showman down and Scott and Barda Free\ weren't done yet.
