IN OUR LAST EXCITING EPISODE GREEN ARROW HAD JUST BEEN ORDERED TO ASSASSINATE THE PRESIDENT OR WATCH BLACK CANARY DIE!
So how did Black Canary get out of this one? Offstage, unfortunately. The Colonel was attending the summit (a metaldetector ensured anyone approaching with a gun would be detected and shot by helicopter gunships before getting near enough to hit anyone) as head of security and to see the job was done. In case you're wondering he was an extreme right winger and figured every president since Nixon had been a traitor so it was past time to make some changes. He had deliberately left a hole in security that an archer with fiberglass equipment could exploit if he was the world's best marksman. Green Arrow doublecrossed him by using an arrowhead that emit paralysing gas so the colonel's hand froze on the deadman's switch. Having botched the mission and with everyone evidently dead Green Arrow explained to his "aide" that he had written details of what was going on and where Black Canary was being held that would be found on his body after they were gunned down. A fortuitous return by the Green Lanterns prevented that and they rescued Diana but we didn't get to see it. Okay so Black Canary is good at being saved from peril but can she get herself out of dire straits? As a matter of fact, YES!
